Doctrine & Faith

What We Believe

We are a New Testament Baptist church anchored in the historic Christian faith. Our beliefs are drawn directly from Scripture — the inspired, authoritative Word of God.

Grounded in Scripture,
Committed to Christ

At Grace Baptist Church of Andrews, everything we do flows from our conviction that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and sufficient Word of God. We are an independent Baptist congregation, meaning we answer to Scripture alone — not to a denomination or outside governing body. We hold to the historic Baptist distinctives: the authority of Scripture, the autonomy of the local church, believer's baptism by immersion, and the priesthood of all believers.

Church Objectives

The mission of Grace Baptist Church is to glorify God by fulfilling the Great Commission and building up the body of Christ. Our church is committed to the following objectives as we seek to serve God and our community in Andrews, Texas.

Art. VIII

Objectives of the Church

Grace Baptist Church of Andrews exists to glorify God and serve His people. The following objectives guide our ministry and community life:

Empower the spiritual body through the Holy Spirit to share Christ locally and globally
Foster a worshipping fellowship that recognizes God's guidance and provision
Develop meaningful relationships with God and with fellow believers
Grow in the knowledge of God and of our human nature and need for Him
Minister unselfishly to our community in the name and spirit of Jesus Christ
Emphasize Christ-like daily living through total commitment to the lordship of Christ

The Ordinances of the Church

Grace Baptist Church observes two ordinances as commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ. These are not sacraments that confer grace, but rather symbolic acts of obedience and remembrance instituted by Christ Himself.

Baptism

We practice believer's baptism by immersion — the immersion in water of a professed believer upon the profession of his or her faith, administered by a duly authorized minister of the Gospel.

This follows the New Testament pattern: a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ and identification with His death, burial, and resurrection.

The Lord's Supper

We observe the Lord's Supper as a memorial ceremony — remembering the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ given for our salvation. It is open to anyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Through this ordinance, we proclaim the Lord's death until He comes again, in accordance with His own command.

Art. III

The Membership of the Church

For a local assembly to be a New Testament Church, it must be constituted with and composed of professedly born-again believers who have been baptized by immersion. Church membership is a privilege, not a right — it reflects a covenant commitment to walk together under God's Word.

"For a local assembly to be a New Testament Church, it must be constituted with and composed of professedly born-again believers who have been baptized by immersion."

Pathways to Membership

Membership at Grace Baptist Church may be received in three ways:

  1. Those who have been baptized by Grace Baptist Church following a profession of saving faith in Jesus Christ.
  2. Those presenting recommendation letters from a church of like faith and practice, demonstrating genuine conversion and Christian character.
  3. Those presenting a statement of faith from a church of like practice when a recommendation letter is unavailable, demonstrating authentic conversion and spiritual life.

Membership Requirements

All prospective members are examined by the pastor regarding their spiritual qualifications, followed by a unanimous vote of the existing church body. Members must agree to uphold the church's doctrines and bylaws as a condition of membership.

Church Discipline

Serious matters of sin or doctrinal departure are addressed in accordance with Matthew 18:15–17, with the goal of restoration. Exclusion from membership requires a two-thirds vote of the church, and restoration is always available upon demonstrated repentance.

"Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

Psalm 119:105

The Bible is not merely an ancient text — it is the living, active Word of God, sufficient to equip the believer for every good work. It is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.
